The Johnny 5 Bulb just released – May 2012 Las Vegas Light Show

This bulb kicks ass! Of all the innovative gadgets we have in our lives, the high tech items we take for granted, there is still one item that is soo passe. Take the light bulb, it has not changed much until recently as great innovative companies take us into the “Light Ages” Yes! This time this technology is way overdue… in other words there is a lot of room for more neat stuff to come our way. Just about a year ago, google provided us an open standard that allowed the light bulb to communicate over wi-fi, dubbed the android bulb (since the idea is you can control the light with your android phone – actually any phone that can use the open standard).
Wait that is not the great news…. Its the “Johnny 5 Bulb” just announced this week at the May 2012 Las Vegas Light Show, Lighting Conference . Its a bulb with a camera in it. Can you imagine a lamp with a built in sensor and camera that communicates with your phone!! That is awesome, think of the applications? Sure security, entertainment, etc…. But best of all, this bulb if fitted with a smaller footprint can be the start of a textile fabric that allows you to cloak yourself with the cameras built in on two surfaces and the lights to project the opposite image. Imagine cloaking every and any object. From street poles, etc, we no longer have to see obstacles in our lives, we can see through them and just see nature as it was intended of course it is a visual image since there are LEDs covertly laminated everywhere, but this is all possible. Ok, maybe I went off the cliff on this idea, but the applications are limitless… go out and buy the Johnny Five Bulb today and immerse yourself into the light ages. Christmas Light Show 2011 in Fountain Valley, CA by Devers Dream Weavers 54020 LEDs No.2

I installed this light show at a friends home in Fountain Valley, CA. It’s dedicated to the memory of Larry Stewart who passed away on May 15th, 2011. Larry and his wife always wanted to do something big for Christmas, this is their dream come to fruition, I was glad to assist in making this happen. This setup consists of 56100 LEDs (220 StellaGreen strings controlled by 15 StellaScapes E16-II controllers), programmed to dance to the music via MADRIX Ultimate running on a custom built Core i5-760 @ 2.8GHz w/ 8GB of RAM. The snowflakes, arches, mini trees, mega tree, & star topper were all made by me. Several custom effects were programmed in MADRIX. All networking, installation, research, programming, & all nighters performed by me (Damion) EDIT, the title says 54020 LEDs, this error was brought to my attention by Fabian Gordon, a real good guy in the lighting scene. I arrived at 54020 during one of many 48+ work days and made a mistake. It’s really 56100 LEDs. Too late to change the video now though :P I’d like to thank Jan for giving me the opportunity & trust to tackle this project. John Chapman of Engineering Solutions Inc. for his guidance & help as well as Andrew Frazer. Last but certainly not least,my wife for sticking by my side throughout this journey in “lightland”! Since people keep asking, or assuming this setup draws a lot power; The whole system draws a maximum of 24 Amps, it runs on 120v AC. So that equals 2880 watts. Basically if you run a hair dryer and a

Earlier this year I got pretty bored and decided to do something creative in my spare time. I’ve been wanting to do a fight scene for a while and decided to develop a story using World of Warcraft. Animation is what I do and I decided to use my skills in making something. This is only the second personal creative work I’ve ever posted so I’m a bit nervous about it. The first being an image I painted years ago which…um… we don’t talk about. :) It’s a bit nerve-wracking to post creative work for others to judge. I’ve thought about making this a series but I’m faced with an impending layoff so my future is unclear. If I get a positive reaction I’m sure I’ll be working on something else in the future. —————– update December 29, 2011 First off I’d like to thank all of you for all of the compliments and even the criticisms. I set out to try and make something I think would be cool and hoped others would think so too. Although I can’t possibly reply to all the emails and comments posted I do read it all, trying to anyway, hehe. I definitely appreciate the kind words. About the music, it wasn’t something I choose at random but an element that I consider to be just as important as the models, lighting, animations,…etc. It was the driving force for the pace and the inspiration for the story. With the feedback I’ve gotten consider your voices heard and it’ll be something I take into account in the future. I still think I made the right decision and it’s not something
